99 percent yes.. If you know what wood smells like ( I work construction) so I deal with maple and oak a lot. Cherry has a smell too.

That straight grain looks like it is some species of cherry for sure. Also compare the bark in this link.

Great stuff. Use it in moderation ... a friend used too much cherry to smoke dark soy sauce marinated salmon, salmon turned out tasting great but looked like charcoalcanuckland

If it looks like cherry, smells like cherry and tastes like cherry, then it can only be one thing. It's pine wood Only kidding my friend. I really like to use 75% oak and 25% cherry on beef. You get a great oak taste and a killer ring that cherry is so famous for.
