I'm all Eggcited to get to light my Egg up this am. I found it easy to control ,going with small moves on the bottom air vent. I left the daisy wheel open and left it alone. Honestly it walked itself slowly up to 375 and settled at 355F. I let it go for three hours with all the Plate setter, grill and pizza stone inside.
I had had to shut it down due to our first rain threat in a month. Lucky me huh.... So I closed the bottom vent and placed the ceramic cap on to cool down.
However the the smell of I'm guessing, the adhesive, was pretty strong. I smelled it for the entire time it was hot. I also done the dollar test, with a sheet of paper, cause I'm poor, before I got started. Good thing cause I had to adjust. It was worse in the front by handle.
Anywho, I'm still stoked and view it as a learning . I tell you it was not hard as I thought it would be ,drinking at 8 am, that is..

@CDPlaya at this stage of the game, your way ahead of where i was then I first started egging. Wish I'd of found this forum to help with the learning curve way before I got my egg. Good Job!I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

I don't like getting drenched outdoors either, although you should have soldiered on. Lol.
consider a smokeware cap for all weather macho-ness. Welcome to the cult.
Now you need to post a what accessories should I get thread as we love to tell new owners to go easy on such things, then we proceed to recommend everything we've bought!

@CDPlaya I'm not to keen on the idea of using a hot smoker in the rain either. Especially a ceramic one. You may get away with once or a thousand times, but sooner or later You will get bit. I have had Unit #4 running along in the mid 300's before and a shower pop up and you can hear it groan and moan as the cold water hits the hot steel. Im pretty fond of my egg, as such it stays under a covered roof.

@SGH Good advise. I did not want to chance it . I am trying to determine how long that aweful smell is going to last. It has cooled down completely. If it stops raining I want to take it up to. 400F and hold it there for a while.
I plan lane to score some exhaust heat wrap tomorrow at work. I think I need to put a couple layers around the hole. At 350f the table was hotter than I like. I have a 1/2 inch gap ,but hey if it's free why chance it....
thanks for for the advise"One Job at a Time, One Day at a Time"

Ok. The weather cleared. This time I tried something different than before. I removed the plate setter and grill.
Boy o boy the temp came up a lot quicker than before. I also got to catch the temp hold it at 400f for an hour. I then backed it down to 350f for another hour.
Since the glue smell went away, I snuck some Nathan's hot dogs on it. Then shut the vents to extinguish ,after removing the dogs.
so for all the newbies like me. A 6 pack of Stella ' s and the glue smell goes away.lol"One Job at a Time, One Day at a Time"
