I'm 43, 'bout to turn 44 on 8/23. Been on Lipitor since I got my cholesterol test back in 2002.  My Trigs were 900, cholesterol was 400.  Very long story short, within the last year I buckled down, pretty much quit sugar, quit bread, ate vegies and poultry, lifted weights 4-5 times a week for approx 8 moths. Had 2 cholesterol tests within those months and went from 40mg to 20mg. Last test after those, in March, was, well, perfect across the board.  I was off Lipitor.  I thought, well, sh*t, working out 4-5 times a week on the weights hooked me up. I fell off the wagon but still worked out. Had my cholesterol test a month ago. Trigs were 794, cholesterol was 370. Now, mind you, I play golf in a mens league every Thursday, 9 holes. In that round I'll have 7-8 PBR's. Couple that with the weekend and I'm doing a 30 pack every week. So since the test was good, it was party time with sugar and devil may care.  Yep, I was wayyyyy wrong.  So, I had a circulatory test. The guy that did the test is the cousin of none other than Vince Dooley' cousin (for all you Dawgs).  Anyway, he said he was 60.  He could pass for 45 easily.  I asked him how the hell he looked so good.  He produced a book from his backpack called "Eat Right For Your Type" (which u can find on amazon, and I found an Android app as well). He said he has followed that book for the last 15 or so years and it changed his life.  He said that as far as my test went, 30 years of smoking had affected my carotid arteries, but since I had quit smoking (I vape with Juul now) I picked the best time to do it.  We got in the discussion of what I could do to stay off Lipitor or any other type drug.  He said you are blood type O. You cannot drink beer, period.  Your body cannot handle it and it cannot digest it.  Blood type O is the oldest type, and you are in the "hunter, gatherer" type, which is NO BEER (just red wine), red meat only, no pork, UGH, no wheat, no peanuts (it's all in the book).  So basically, based on your blood type, your body will function at its peak with the right fuel for it.  Deviation causes problems over time.

Why did I go though that? Well, I love beer and I know for certain it killed my trig level.  There's an admission.  But the reason for this dissertation was to see if anyone else has stuck to this "diet", which would be for life, and if it works and if so, is/was it worth it.

Thanks.

The DudeThis is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.

    I feel for you brother.
B- here. According to the chart, my junk food is pork, chicken, shrimp, oysters, scallops, crab, lobster, wheat, buckwheat, tomatoes, olives, corn, peanuts, and lentils.
Fish, beef, wine, beer, juice, and everything else is GTG.  Basically I can eat anything, I just need moderation on all things considered "junk."
I think I could handle that.
Good luck with your diet. Do what it takes to keep circling the sun.

I prefer the view from above ground.  I can't drink beer.  I have to keep saying it because I can't believe it, but trigs don't lie.

I wish you well on your journey and am glad you shared.  I am a firm believer in the cleansing power of regular blood donations.  I have been on the "every eight week" protocol for 17+ years (save a one year hiatus for a tatoo) .  Don't know if the routine "oil change" makes a difference but I eat proteins (BGE cooked) every day of the week, don't do salads or fresh fruit, pound beer like it's water (especially on the weekend) chase with a bourbon and my "numbers" are great.  Matter of fact, once I shifted to the above BGE fueled routine my cholesterol dropped around 30 points.
I believe genetics have a greater influence than most Drs will share.  One man's poison is another's pleasure.
    Stay the course.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Noted.  Never heard of it, but makes sense to me.  Might have to work that in as well!

I am a firm believer that our lives and well being are in Gods hands, with some exceptions for stupidity.  Long story short, diet sounds interesting and may help but...my next Coors light is for you....  Live... Love... Laugh.  When I get to where I'm going I want to make sure that my body is thoroughly worn out with scars, smiles, memories, and love to prove I left nothing behind.
