Assembly of the Egg

I recently bought the XL BGE...upon assembly I encountered trouble positioning the dome. The issue that I am having is that it is 1/2 back in relation to the bottom of the Egg. Basically it does not sit flush with the lower portion of the Egg. There are so many screws...I have loosened, tightened, adjusted, though to no avail, nothing has worked! HELP PLEASE.
My my question is: How do I center the top with the bottom?
Thank you,
Frank

Question, have you watched the assembly video on youtube?I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Yes, over and over again Tim. Now having issues with the dome fitting flush to the base.

I've put together 2 larges and a mini max. I keep the plastic sides on (the ones that keep the springs from opening the hinge), put the bands in place, put the dome on top with the plastic spacers that are to center the bands and start snugging everything up. When done, I remove the plastic sides and everything is perfect.

The XL is far more work than all the others. You really need to follow the directions. To a t and in the correct order. If you get things a bit out of whack it can be tough to get it right. I would suggest loosening the hing hardware and the bands. Once loose adjust everything to line up and while using the plastic spacers and someone to aide in band alignment, tighten things back up in the order originally shown in the directions. The parallel spacing of the bands is crucial. Note the bands are not to be pushed onto the ceramics as much as one might think. This is the usual culprit of the bite issue. Keep the bands even with the edge of the ceramics or you will cause the top to be pushed back.

Great tip...thx PG!

Wow, I'm shocked. We never sell them in a box at our dealer. Always fully assembled. I guess if someone asked for it specifically in a box we would.

Mine wouldn't fit in my car in the box, so they took it out and tossed the box.LBGE in Northern VA

When I bought mine it was still in the box. They didn't offer one assembled (even though they had a couple on the floor) and I didn't ask. I just thought that was the way it came. Assembly was a snap, and I even had "help" from a 8 year old!

I guess we're the different ones then... Maybe it carried over to green egg, cause we're a Stihl dealer, and nothing with Stihl is ever sold in a box. Always assembled, fueled up and ready to go to work. So maybe the same mentality carried over to Green Egg.

When I got my Large five years ago, local dealer assembled and delivered it.
After that length of time, never had to adjust anything at all.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon -
Most of the dealers I visited when shopping around offered free assembly and delivery (sometimes delivery was at a cost). Guess it depends on the local market. Two Large Eggs, 6 gal Cajun Fryer, and a MiniMax in Charlotte, NC - My New Table
