CGW swing grid Small/minimax thoughts
Jeremiah
Posts: 6,412
I'm getting a little tired of trial and error accessories and figured I'd pose the question here. I'm wanting the CGW swing rack for my MM. For two reasons. One, I really like grilling on cast iron. (They say this produces similar results) And I'm wanting to replace my craycort three piece. (If anyone wants it let me know I'll send it to you) Second, I really want a good second tier for added space. (I did the redneck second grid with bolts). SO does anyone have one for a small/ mm? Thoughts???

I'll take the craycourt....

I really like my CGW swing rack on my Mini Max. It's great for low and slow but I prefer my cast iron for direct cooks. The CGW does not sear as well compared to the stainless or cast iron.

If you had a lg egg, I'd sell u my Swing Grate - cheap. I hate the damn thing.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

I use the PartyQ. It's been great. It comes in handy towards the end of cooks when the outer lumps of charcoal need stoking but you can easily do a 8-10 hour cook. I am also using the Kick Ash Basket too which has made a big improvement with air flow. I am about to replace my plate setter with a Woo setup so I will be anxious to see how much the airflow improves. Here's a couple pics of some low and slow cooks on the Mini Max. This pork butt was 8.5#.Jeremiah said:Hmm. How do you use it for low and slows??

@Jeremiah I am interested too. Love my CGW setup for my large and debating getting one for the MM. This thread helps...

The temperature probe tree is from BBQ Guru:

The grill probe covers came with the iGrill2. I looked around and couldn't find anyone selling them separately.

Load it up with anything. You could probably fit 3 dozen+ ABTs on it. It's definitely better with smaller items.Jeremiah said:Hmm. How do you use it for low and slows??
Here's a shot from a recent catering gig. I used the Mini Max to smoke all of the appetizers, while the client's Large was used for the main course. These apps cook fairly quickly so I just kept rotating them in and out. There was always a fresh batch. (spinach & artichoke stuffed portobello mushrooms and Italian sausage & feta cheese stuffed sweet peppers)

@Jeremiah - The CGW mod for the MiniMax fits with the Woo. The upper tier is tight in in the dome when the Woo rests on the upper portion of the fire ring. I may adjust things this week or next.biggreenrob said:
