TimeStick vs TimeStick Trio

Thermoworks has an open box sale right now. I was considering ordering either the TimeStick or TimeStick trio. Any advice as to which to order?

I have both and use both. The basic stick is handiest, but the buttons are hard to push unless you learn to use the hard corner of your thumbnail. The Trio is great for tracking multiple efforts, but you need to learn how to clear each individually as you can accidentally clear all. Also the basic stick has a clock feature, but trio doesn't. And the trio is heavier around the neck, but you get used to it.

I have the timestick, I like, and use it on most every cook. The count-up feature is my favorite, helps learn approx times for specific cooks. I hang it around my neck whilst I prep food , lounge and whatnot, heavy on the whatnot. Scroll to clock, set timer for sides, invaluable to me at this point. I think I paid around $19.00? Get either one, they're great.

I'm all for specialized devices and niche gadgets, but this task looks like something that can easily be handled by an app on your smartphone (unless, of course, you don't have a smartphone). Am I missing something? Two Large Eggs, 6 gal Cajun Fryer, and a MiniMax in Charlotte, NC - My New Table

@HofstraJet you are missing durability and cost. When cooking it seems to be raining, my hands seem to be a mess, and I am always dropping stuff. None of those things are conducive to a smart phone. Plus it doesn't need charging every 12hrs.

I like the Trio because it is backlit. Cons are that it is a bit heavier, not as simple to use as the regular timestick, and the lanyard is longer (not a major problem though). I find myself using the regular Timestick more often.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

+1. I used to think the same, that my phone would work fine. My hands were invariably dirty, the phone was in my pocket, took a few jabs to get to the app (unlock phone, click app, etc). The timestick is more convenient.Ozzie_Isaac said:@HofstraJet you are missing durability and cost. When cooking it seems to be raining, my hands seem to be a mess, and I am always dropping stuff. @Ozzie_Isaac and @caliking All excellent points. You've convinced me. I ordered from the open box sale.

I made a simple knot in mine to shorten it. Reason was the magnetic back was always attaching itself to my belt buckle! The yank was irritating!caliking said:I like the Trio because it is backlit. How about just sticking it to your belt buckle??LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
guess I could when I was by myself, but it might look peculiar to company - you know saying "excuse me I have to check my time" and then grab my crotch...XC242 said:How about just sticking it to your belt buckle??Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
