OT - Need to Purchase Air Compressor

I'm in need of a 60-gallon air compressor for sanding and painting lots of steel.

I'm terrified of Harbor Freight compressors.

Please share your thoughts, opinions, etc.

Thanks in advance.

    Look at Northern Tool

I would look at Quincy or Ingersol Rand

You will need to total up your airflow requirements to determine if the compressor will allow you to work continuously or if you will have to take breaks to allow the compressor to catch up.

I own some HF tools as occasional/seldom used tools. If you are doing "lots" of anything, bite the bullet and get something of quality and where you can get replacement parts easily. Buying quality only stings once.

    Craigslist.

    I bought a 240 volt 5hp 60-gal two stage for $400.

The only thing you have to be careful of is rust on the inside.  Open the tank drain and if a bunch of water shoots out, leave.  If it has an automatic purge valve, then it's good to go.

Compressors direct is a good site where you can do a lot of research quick.  I will buy from them next time.

This is what I know: a compressor is only as good as the service that comes with it. Although 60 gallon capacity is nice to have, you need the horse power to keep it pushing that air. You need to have enough gourde power to feed the air consumption of the tools.
if painting, with today's equipment, you will need non constrictive fittings to go with the larger ID air line hoses.
What kind of spray equipment will you be using?
FWIW, I have had success with Campbell Hausfield, Ingersol Rand, and Kaiser.
Another consideration is controlling the amount of water that gets supplied with compressed air. It does create havoc.
send me some data off line of what you are doing and I will help as best I can.

Another system that is available is from a company called Tsunami.  The people and equipment are first rate, and the technology is extremely unique.
i have spec'd their equipment in a couple of projects I am working with, specifically to get better control of air quality, and have not been disappointed.
they also sell grounded air hoses, which if you have ever had to work with high static surfaces, you will appreciate the benefits.
