BGE at SAM online

Same club is carrying the medium BGE online. Do any of you'll know if the warranty will be valid if you buy it through Sams online, or do you need to buy it through a certified dealer? Thanks.

No warranty through Sams.  It has to be through an approved dealer

I would email BGE and ask. Can't hurt to ask if it's a good price. Also see what Sam's does about warrantying it themselves. Might be hard to get a replacement from Sams in say, 3 years if something like the ceramic cracks. But they might just let you return it for a full refund instead.

  • The Medium Egg on Sam's online is unauthorized and would not include the lifetime warranty from BGE. It appears people have asked this question on the Sam's website and they choose to ignore it or simply respond with the generic response that the product is covered under their Membership Satisfaction Guarantee. Also 835.00 for a Medium Egg, Nest & Mates is not a killer deal worth having only a Sam's warranty in my opinion.

Can't ask for much better than cash back. BGE doesn't offer that if you are not satisfied

Depending on where you live...that is not even a good deal.  I think that is pretty close to list price.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

So what happens in 3 years when you are satisfied with your Big Green Egg and you need a replacement Firebox or FireRing under warranty? Will you want your cash back then? That is the only thing Sam's would be able to offer. Good chance if they give you your money back in 3 years you will be paying more for the NEW Egg if you decided to buy one at that time. Just my opinion.

Most BGE dealers are small businesses, eh?  gotta support those guys whenever you can,and here is a reason to do so - if you buy from the Walton family you do not get the lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Walmart has plenty of money - help your dealer out, or don't start complaining  if he closes his doors and you can't find decent lump, rubs, accessories, etc.

The Sam's Club website says 15 sold.  Wonder how many they had in stock.

Some of my local authorized Gold dealers are local franchisees of Pinch-a-Penny pool supply. The store employees know nothing about the egg, no eggs or accessories in stock, etc. It just sits in the corner under a beach umbrella as a show piece. Very sad.

Hey look! It's been 2 weeks and they have now sold 20 of them nationwide. I don't think I would pat myself on the back on that performance. I guess people prefer to buy from a local dealer. I also find it amusing that Sam's refuses to answer the questions about the warranty that continue to be asked on the website.

I was going to start a new thread...but I found this one.  Sam's just opened a new club near my house a couple of weeks ago.  I just stopped in for the first time, and saw they had medium and large BGE's.  The large is $849 apparently with next and mates.  I didn't note/photo the medium, as I only saw it in passing on our way out.  One thing I just noticed as odd in the photo I took of the large setup is it says it comes with a porcelain-coated grid.  I thought BGE stopped using those and had switched to bare stainless steel a couple of years ago?  I've got the old "porcelain" one as my egg is older, and keep considering replacing it as its more of a rust coated grid at this point.

What's the deal with BGE's repeatedly showing up at the big box clubs (Sam's, Costco, etc.)?  I know the local dealers must be pissed each time it "happens", but if I was a dealer, I'd really be pressing BGE for answers or looking at getting into another brand.  That's what the dealer I bought mine from did.  They also went out of business...so maybe they're not a good model :)

If you're already dealing $835 for a backyard grill, then the extra $150 or so can't be that big a deal to 1) NOT buy from the soul-killing Walmart, 2) support a local business, and 3) get the warranty.

Is that in Punta Gorda?  If so, I have visited it several times and you are correct, most of the staff are not familiar with the BGE.  One guy is well versed and has one on his boat, I usually prefer to talk with him.  They are primarily a pool store, but I did score my smokeware cap there!  Last time I was there, they did have a large, XL and a medium setup.

I'm the kind of guy who is crazy loyal to local businesses if treated well.  That said, BGE has done a poor job at selecting dealers in my area.  I've visited 3 of them, and there is no way I'd leave my money with any of them.

In the absence of a good experience, I wouldn't think twice about giving business to a big box store if I was in the market.

@blasting ... if you're in the Tucson area, try to visit Today's Patio on Oracle Road in Ora Valley.  Ask for the manager, mention Big Green Eggs, and you'll experience what a good dealer is like.  Oh yes, be sure to go to the bath room first ... that gal can talk BGE BBQing till the store closes.

I've visited most of the ones on the south side of Phoenix and have to agree with you.  The one exception - and they're only a silver dealer - is Gilbert Fireplace and BBQ.  They have a great attitude even if they deal in more than just BGEs.  It's worth the trip just to see a Komodo Kamado.

Thanks for the recommendation @Jeepster47 .  I always like to give my hard earned dollars to someone who seems to appreciate them as much as I do.
