It's cool, I understand it's a lot of work to make this grate.  It's just what I want.  I appreciate and welcome everyone's opinion and advice in here.  One of the reasons I wanted an expanded grate is a few weeks ago when I first got the egg, I cooked some bison burgers on it.  The meat almost fell through the grates.
The other reason is I just like the look of the expanded metal grate lol.  The little bit of money I spent on it is nothing.  A friend of mine is going to do all the welding I need for a 12 pack so no worries there.

For the support issue you could just set it on top of the standard grate.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@ringkingpin yep I've seen your style flanges before I believe. Are yours seamless as an end product?  Bookmarked website link.

@Downr@nge, don't let the naysayers discourage you. Just make sure you get patents for your ideas. I don't think there's a person on the forum that isn't a little jealous of the grate at  @Mickey uses. Even the Texas haters like it. Here's an article about fortunes made from iFart apps to pet rocks and more. Just don't be like the Smiley face dude. Good luck with your grate and  keep us posted.

@stemc33 - the workmanship in Mickey's grid is excellent, the image, not so much.... =)
That is one big grid - sounds like you want something that has smaller spaces between the bars than a regular grid - you are on the right track. Like the comment above about just putting it on the regular grid for support.
