How to seal a spot missing glaze?

We bought a nice used LBGE this spring in AR and are moving to Upstate NY with it.
While packing the egg for moving, some glaze pulled away from the lower half and stuck to one of the plastic prongs on the nest. (see photos below)
Is this going to be a problem up north in a place that goes down to -50 F sometimes, and has 200-300 in of snow a year?
Should we try sealing the bare spot, and if so, how? Would an epoxy work?
When we reassemble the egg we will try and find some little asbestos pads or something to go between the melting plastic nest prongs and the side of the Egg.
fishlessman in another thread said he kept using a chipped egg with no problems and not repairing it: http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1164368/chipping-glaze If I read the post right, this other egg is in Maine, so perhaps wet/cold climate isn't a problem?
Since we bought the egg used, there's no point in suggesting warranty service, etc. Yes the price was good enough to make it worth not buying it new.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome. I don't know what to seal it with, but I don't think it's gonna give you any problems.Steven

I have exact same issue. I believe the plastic that is attached to the nest melted, stuck to the glaze and then when moved pulled the glaze with it. I think finding some high temp automotive paint is an option, but I wonder if getting "touch up paint" from mothership would be better (color match, etc.). Let me shoot them an e-mail to see if they can offer an option.

Plain ol' acrylic craft paint works fine! I have a 2 oz bottle of Anita's All Purpose from a craft store. #11040 Hunter Green is a great color match. OTOH take your rain bonnet with you to the store to match up the color. Also many egg dealers carry touch up paint, but I'm not sure what they charge for it.

Thanks RRP!
I'm going to give this a try. (saves me a trip)

Awesome suggestion, thanks!
(And thanks for the nice welcome)
About putting something between the feet and the side of the egg, I'm leaning toward making little pads from cork.
According to this reference (http://www.researchgate.net/profile/Marcos_Sabino/publication/215443157_Cork_properties_capabilities_and_applications/links/0fcfd50ebff709dd8b000000.pdf ) cork agglomerate can handle temperatures up to 383K (=230F). [see page 360, Table 13, Working temperature]
According to this thread, the external temperature of the egg doesn't go that high: http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/858003/egg-cool-to-the-touch
So I think cork spacers between the nest prongs and the Egg should do the trick. Once we have moved and reassembled our Egg, I'll install them and follow up with a report on how it works.Off-grid in the Adirondacks

Just take off the vinyl sleeves (the way BGE used to sell 'em). Mine has no sleeve, no pad, just powder coated steel.
I do have a wine cork as a spacer on my dome temp probe and it has been there for about 4 years with no problem. I suspect it gets hotter down by the fire box though.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I painted my whole egg red so that I could pretend I had a Kamado Joe. Before I'm run out of here, I'm just kidding.

If it is exposed to weather long term, definitely get something to seal the surface. Keep the moisture out. Long term absorbtion and freezing will have detrimental effects. Moisture is the most damaging issue to the external egg finish.

I have the same issue but mine is under warranty. Should I make a claim or just paint it?LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.
If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
@XC242 also had the same issue. Made a claim under warrenty and no probleem at all. Also in the Netherlands there is a great service from BGE
-
If it is purely cosmetic, I don't think a warranty claim is justified. I'm going to use the touch up paint and will report back on the results.
