AR vs woo

I have been looking at these for a while but I can't decide which to get.  The woo offers what I am looking for initially but the ar seems to give more versatility.  It looks like I can't use my placesetter with the 91st and I would need to also buy a stone. And the 91st is much more expensive.  Does the ar offer enough usable versatility to warrant the price and the need for the stone?  Any advice is appreciated.

I have a woo and it takes care of what I need. I love it. It does work with the platesetter.  AR can supporte multiple levels,  but I don't need that currently and woo was only $46.

I bought the woo and use it with the platsetter.  I made a homemade second level with a grate and nuts and bolts.  I pretty much always use the woo then add the second grate on top if I need more cooking space.  Never used the AR, but I am very happy with my setup.

Just call @tjv and tell him what you cook, plan to cook, for how many, etc and he will steer you in the right direction. Great guy

I went over to the ceramic grill store and put hands on both. I went with the AR as it offered more options for me. I love the multi level cooking and the fact that i can slide the racks in and out of the egg while cooking. With the extender I can take advantage of the reflective heat in the dome. If you plan on doing bigger cooks in the future look into the AR. If you are just cooking for a few and build your own second level you will save a few bucks for sure. Tom is great, give him a call.

I have the PSWoo2 CI and the AR for my larges. I had the AR first but I still wanted what the Woo offers (plus I already had the platesetters). I use the Woo about 60-70 percent of the time and the AR with the oval stone for briskets and multiple butt cooks (which isn't all that often).

Call Tom at CGS. He'll be happy to help.

God spoke to me one night and told me the AR was better than the woo.  There is your answer.

I have the woo and the extender, I have been using this combination for years. Works great for my needs. Recently upgraded to the Woo-CI. I like the new design and how you can lift the platesetter out with it.. I also agree with everyone above, call Tom, you will end up with what is right for you.

You have to be a bit careful with @nolaegghead ... because of his dyslexia, it might not have been Divine Intervention after all.

With the woo, I forgot to mention this.  You can take the woo, platesetter, drip pan and grate all out at once very quick.  Works well for reverse sear, which I use a lot.  I take everything out at once, open the vents, then keep the meet on the grate and just set the grate back in directly over the coals.

Have AR's in both Larges. Have Woo's in Mini and Mini-Max. This works for me. Plus I spoke to both Nola and Tom.

I bought the Woo initially, and later got the AR to for the multilevel cooking for when people are over. Honestly, I use the Woo more. I really don't need the multilevel cooking, only on rare occasions. Like someone else said, the Woo is also easier for reverse sear.

I have been going this in my head for sometime now too.  I have an XL with a plate setter and homemade raised grid.  The AR would give me more options and with the drip pan, extra stone and grate it can do a lot.  The Woo2 would also do a lot and I could use my wok I have been wanting to try.  I want the combo and it make since to get it that way because it is cheaper if you buy it all together.  I am just afraid I wouldn't use my PS much and I have a new one in the garage waiting for the old to finally crack in two.  I think either would be great to have or both.  It may be my Father's Day/Birthday gift this year.

So, can you use a wok with the woo?  Or would I need a spider?
I think I might email this to a random friend just to confuse the hell out of them :)  Sounds like a quote from a Dr Seuss book.

The woo has the spider built in to it.  That's why I like it over the spider.

Well after many thoughts back and forth, I finally ordered the Woo2/AR Combo and 20" top grate for my XL. A while back I noticed my platesetter had a crack about 1/2 way across. After pricing a replacement XL platesetter, the combo turned out to be a really good deal and allows much more versatility. When the platesetter breaks, I will be ready. I did not order the slide guides as I could not really see they did all that much to help if you were doing a three tier cook as the lowest grate would still be accessible only by removing the parts above. Am I missing something regarding how this works? The nice lady on the phone confirmed the prices will be increasing and some of the kits will no longer be available so it became somewhat of a no brainer for me. My days of jerry rigging raised grids etc. are over.
