Beer can burgers - first try
First attempt at beer can burgers. This was my second cook on the the new XL.
Wrapped in bacon. Stuffed with sautéed onions, mushroom & garlic. Also added BBQ sauce and crumbled bacon to the mix. Topped with sharp cheddar. (The kids burgers got no mushroom and what little onion they got was promptly picked out)
Cooked indirect at 300 for 45 minutes, then cranked to 700 and seared for 1 minute to crisp the bacon. I should have monitored the temp because they came out well done. I think 30 minutes for medium is more like it. They were good nonetheless!

About how many ounces of beef did you use per burger?
-
I had 2.5 lbs to start. I made 2 that were about 1/2 lb and divided the rest equally.XL and Med Eggs

Bacon is always a winner.
Why are they called "beer can burgers?"

Because you use a can (or bottle) to mash the hole in the middle.XL and Med Eggs
