I can pick up a Ranger R72 sport w/115 Yamaha with 26 hours on it. It has been garage kept and is like new.

I don't know anything about them, but from internet searches appears to be pretty good.

    I have a 2004 Ranger 185DVX with a 175 Yamaha HPDI on back. The Rangers are outstanding in build quality. They are the Cadillacs on water. I have never dealt with the R series but I can more than vouch for the DVX and Commanche series. They are about all that you can ask for in a bass boat.

    This was owned by a 74 year old guy that passed away. How are the hulls as far as toughness?

    As good as it gets. You can't go wrong with Ranger.

    You can't beat a Ranger hull. Just check the fuel delivery system. Ethanol is hell on marine engines. I just spent $800 replacing fuel lines on my 07 Yamaha F225.

    @DoubleEgger ...how do I check or what do I check for on the fuel system

    If you can, unclamp the fuel line at the primer bulb (easy place to get to) and look inside the line. See if you can tell if the liner is coming apart. Also, check the filters and look for any signs of gunk of solidification (gelling) of any fuel. When I bought my muscle car, the Holly Carb was full of snot from sitting up.

    Ultimately it would be best to have a mechanic look at it and run a compression test on the engine and check the vacuum at a minimum. A buddy of mine thought he was getting a helluva deal in a bass boat only to have the engine blow less than 10 hours later. $11,000 later, he had a new 150hp Merc. Just because it has low hours doesn't mean there's no problems. Imagine a 25 year old car with 15,000 miles on it that had been sitting up for a long time. Would you trust it as your daily driver?

    @DoubleEgger  thanks buddy..great advice..

    I actually live 20 minutes from Mercury Marine and I worked there myself a few years back. Still have friends there.

    The old guy that owned this always had it serviced evey year, that what I was saying about the stack of receipts. I will check it out ...might be my new  bass boat after tomorrow..

    Sounds like a nice find. It sounds like it's well kept. But as the old saying goes BOAT - Break Out Another Thousand!

    Good advice already. I'd pick a jointed topwater Rapala for the first bait thrown when you get out on the water. Happy EGGing.

    @bcsnave  check out some of the bass lure auction sites on Facebook. I bought a bunch of sick looking hand painted cranks recently. A lot of guys doing some amazing work.

    What everyone else said. Rangers are awesome. I highly recommend a compression test on the engine. I recently sold a 1999 Scout with a Yammy 90hp. It was an awesome engine. Upgraded to a Skeeter SL 180 with a 150 Yammy. I love the Skeet, but I was shopping for a Ranger and just couldn't find the Ranger Reata used. My brother has a 2006 Ranger Comanche with a 225 HPDI. Yamaha and Ranger combo is as good as it gets IMHO.

    most i would do is check the gas by pouring some from the line into a clear glass bottle, let it sit overnight and check for water and crap. definitely would change the lines from tank to motor, when those go it fills the carbs with junk and this ethanol gas hardens the primer ball. i believe in 96 they were still using the old black gas lines that turned to mush with ethanol. i probably lost a tank or two before finding a leak in one of the lines, right into a drinking supply

    I would get the fuel lines changed before even cranking it. No telling how long the gas has been sitting there deteriorating the lines. You do not want to suck that into the engine. Be patient, do it correctly, then enjoy!
