After lots of research I just used Sikkens on my cedar table.  I do like the fact that you can get different colors.  I ended up using the teak color.  I haven't even put my egg in the table yet, just waiting on this rain to stop so the table can dry out a little first.

Not sure if it was my lack of skills or if this is just the way it is with Sikkens but there are some brush strokes on the horizontal surfaces.  The vertical surfaces are completely brush stroke free.  Maybe I put it on too heavy, I don't know.  It's not a big deal, most people won't even notice.  But it's my table and I'm anal like that.

If you decide on Sikkens they have a surface prep that has to be done with a TSB/bleach/water mixture.  It's got to be power washed off.  Not a huge deal unless you don't have access to a power washer but just thought I'd throw it out.  Some people here probably applied without doing the surface prep but I thought if I was going through all this trouble of building a table and paying a good bit of money for stain I was going to do it as they recommended.

  • JimiThing,
Thanks for your input, just solidifies my choice to go with Ready Seal.
  • @ Dave Richardson:  Sorry bro, not going to make a road trip for one gallon of stain, no matter how "awesome" it is...
