I say "open sesame" and snap my fingers like a boss.

Just toss the whole thing in and light the thread.Love you bro!

Opening it is not the issue. My problem is dumping it out and always getting a cloud of dust in my face which results in black boogers.
-
This is SO freaking hilarious!! They make this "easy" (ha) to open top and NO-ONE can open the damned thing without tools. (me included).

Here's my method ... applicable to Rockwood bags:
1) Rotate the bag until the single line of stitches are towards you. All of the loops are on the backside in this position.
2) Go to the end of the stitching by your right hand. That's the starting point.
3) Gently work the stitches loose until the single stitch thread is coming out your side of the bag and loop thread is coming out the other side. Gently tug back-and-forth on each thread until it unravels.
4) If gentle tugging doesn't work, then either a) work the knot loose enough that you can pull the single stitch thread out up to the next stitch b) cut the first stitch on the single thread side and work the cut off piece loose on the other side c) cut the damn top off the bag.
Hmmm ... forgot to check, I wonder if @stlcharcoal wrote the instructions on the bottom of the bag.

I've been able to open a few bags with the string but decided it was just quicker and easier to slit it with a razor. @jeepster47 - it is cool when you rip it open with the string!!! No patience here for the charcoal string or the strings on the seed bags when I was a kid. Lol.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

@Mattman3969 ... there's a big dollop of Scottish blood in my background. Stubborn folks to be sure. So, no *&$#@ little piece of string is going to get the better of me.

I have two engineering degrees, but that damn string, along with tie-down straps, continue to elude me.___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

@Botch No offense but, engineers can make simple things difficult. A molehill into a mountain so to speak.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I work it until it unzips, but have never figured out HOW I do it.
Scissors and Knives are CHEATING. -
@legume I'll being my office pondering a solution. I'll get back to you when I dumb it down for the laymen.
-
@DoubleEgger ... great videos - thanks - but, they're for a single thread stitch. Both Rockwood and Royal Oak use a dual thread stitch. The principle is the same though.

I don’t even try the strings on either lump or dog food. Out comes the utility knife or scissors and off with its head, to quote the Queen of Hearts. I’m not saving the bags and there are no extra marks for neatness.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Rotate bag until you locate the side with the loose thread dangling. Grab the thread and yank. After you rip your fingers up trying to yank, pull the Kershaw out and cut it open.They/Them
