Pin oak...any reason not to use?

A friend just took a couple large limbs off of a big pin oak tree.  I asked for a few slices off the limb.  Is any kind of oak about the same for smoking?  Has anyone had experience with pin oak?
Large (sometimes wish it were an XL) in KS

Pin oak is fine to use.  Try it and if you like it, keep using it.

It could be a bit strong if green but use it.

Yes sir, I have. First let me say this. What we call "pin oaks" falls into the red oak category, not white oaks. If you are accustom to using any of the various white oaks, you may find the pin oak to be a tad more pronounced in profile. But with that said, pin oak is a excellent smoking wood. I'm real fond of its stronger flavor on beef primals.
