I had to put my best friend down 5 years ago and my wife and I cried like little kids. We still miss him, but the memories and stories are golden.

    My condolences for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.  RIP Dixie!

So sorry to hear about your loss.  It is tough to take.  There are a lot of people in this world I would rather see go before a good dog.

That sucks, I'm sorry for your loss.

I have had several dogs pass while I was growing up, but none I considered "mine". All the other dogs were more my mom's dogs; now my first real dog is 6 years old and I see her getting older in a differnt light.

We resecued her, actually she was a foster fail, she was set to be put to sleep at 4pm and at 230pm a woman from the shelter snuck her out. I always felt in some weird way she knew she was pulled from death row because I have never seen such blind loyalty, even for a dog.

Edit: first sentence had been cut off.

    Been there and it sucks.
The vet gave me this in a sealed envelope as we walked out and told us to read it when we got home:

The day you laid me down to sleep
you prayed to the Lord; my soul to keep
I know you had to send me on my way
but you sent me to a new; better; and much brighter day

You sent me home; to heaven above
where I'm cradled in God's arms; covered with His love
I understand what you did; you did out of love and I'll return that love; from my new home above

My sickness is gone; and I'm free here to roam
I run and play in the meadows; here in my new home We play here by the Bridge; from morning to night there is no rain here; just warm sunlight

I know you all miss me; I miss you all too
but I'll always be with you; whatever you do
Please wipe the tears; from your weeping eyes
by remembering the good times; from days gone by

When you look out; into the dark of night I'll be that bright star; your guiding light We'll meet again at the Bridge one day when we'll walk in the light; together to stay
