I use a charcoal chimmney set right on top of the lump and lite it there after opening the bottom vent fully. This works grest for me and takes very little time to get to temp

Been using BGE fire starters Squares. Just got a box of Rutland squares, they look the same and a whole lot cheaper.

For my Large Egg, MAPP torch; For my smaller KJ Jr., a healthy splash of 91% rubbing alcohol and a match.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

I am totally sold on the bbq guru golf club. It has similar abilities as the map torch with a bit less overkill. Seems a bit safer. Really get things going quick and safely. Also used a looft at my last demo and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I would like the standing and holding the button, but it was really quite quick and painless. I can see why they are popular as well. I have used all the methods mentioned with varying degrees of success. It really is another personal preference, as they all will work.

I rub two pieces of lump together, really fast.

BBQ is a celebration of culture in America. It is the closest thing we have to the wines and cheeses of Europe.
Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.

Electric starter for me, I will use my Looftlighter from time to time but am kind of ambivalent about it. I like the electric starter, exactly 10 minutes and I have a great fire.Enjoying life in Cincinnati, Ohio - Large BGE & MiniMax BGE
