Just bought a large egg and have only tried a beer can chicken so far. I read on the BGE site that you should not exceed 350° for the first several cooks to allow for the seal to cure properly. What is your experience on how many cooks I must do before I can go higher temps?
I find myself reading so many blogs, articles etc on the egg and then ordering all kinds of accessories. These eggs are kinda like owning a boat, a huge hole you throw money into.
Really enjoying learning about the egg and techniques from the forum.

Welcome to the madness. Keep that wallet out.

Welcome to the asylum. I stayed under 350 for 3 cooks I think, didn't have any seal issues until a few months later when I wrapped the needle on my thermometer.
Also, I would suggest avoiding the "Devastated" thread. We're not usually that crazy.LBGE

Welcome! Crank it up! It's all under warranty so no worries about the cure. I hear BGE tests eggs by heating them up hundreds and hundreds of degrees and puts them in a ice bath afterwards for strength durability test.

Welcome to the asylum.
Check all the fasteners, band bolts etc... after a couple of cooks, they usually need tightening. Torque the band bolts - 125 in pounds, if you have a wrench.

does anyone know where i can sell my large egg nest. I can't find a topic anywhere.
-
@Firefightmgraham Welcome! You will catch all kind of grief here if you try selling anything within the first 100 posts. I don't mind it but some will get on your case
Your best luck would be your local Craigslist. Someone will usually pick up a nest if it's priced under $50. Anything more the nest will sit on Craigslist. I've bought two large nests on Craigslist for $30 and $40. Plus with Craigslist you won't have to ship. Hope that helps a little"The pig is an amazing animal.
