I'm just going to ask to be sure. You dont have a Platesetter?LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

I don't have a plate setter . I use a 13 " pizza stone on a 18" weber grate.
maybe I shoulld use a larger stone ? -
I use a setter - but to ensure good airflow you need at least 1" to 1-1/2" space around the stone. An 18" Weber grid on the fire ring means the inside diameter of the fire ring is about 15" to 16". Go at least 2 inches less. In other words, measure the inside diameter of the fire ring, subtract 2".

I'm no engineer so as far as square inches are concerned I have no clue. However when I place my 13" stone over top of the plate setter the stone covers the big part of the platesetter minus the legs. This being said I know you can get away with a bigger stone than 13" but i don't know what size would be too big before it became a bad thing. I dont know the availability of different sized stones either. Do they make 14", 15" ? One more thing. If you look at the Kamado Joe the deflector stone looks pretty big and it seems to work. Maybe someone here knows the size of the classic joe stone.Chowman said:I don't have a plate setter . I use a 13 " pizza stone on a 18" weber grate.

Yes I have a plate setter. Just don't like how it leaves the 3 big gaps. The joe uses a 15 inch stone

The legs on the platesetter are annoying sometimes and beneficial other times. For instance i can spatch a chicken indirecly and do a burgers direct over the gap. On the other hand when i do ribs the ends sometimes burn because of the gap. Let us know what size you get. and picsLBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos
