I decided to try something besides my normal S&P or APL style steak. Went with a drizzle of canola and liberally applied Garden's Steak Blend rub.
Brought the pit up to 700℉.
The first 3 went on direct on the CI grid. One at medium and the other two medium well.
Mine got the caveman treatment.
Plated.

Great cook! I cannot wait to egg again. I'm about to do it one armed. Where did you get the steaks?

@MaC122 I was in a pinch and Publix had em on sale.
@hapster Thanks! Could've went about 30 seconds longer but , I like mine rare to a lite medium rare. I was happy with the flavor and the crust was right where I wanted it. Had the pit around 750℉ on the caveman. Finished off rolling onto the sides to crisp up the side fat.
@SGH Thanks Scottie.

Nice looking steaks Husker!
I have a question for you - I see that you typically have your cooking grid installed with the bars going side-to-side rather than front-to-back. I see others do this sometimes as well. Is there some benefit to this? I guess I usually go front-to-back so the spatula doesn't catch the bars. Just wondering...
Maybe that's the secret to all of your amazing cooks lately! I'm willing to try it if that's the case.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN! -
@minniemoh Thank You. & Nope I see no benefit from the way I do it. I've done it like this from day one. I'm sorta OCD like that. In fact when our Son was egging he put it in all cockeyed and I think I went nutty.
I guess I just like the way it looks on camera (sad to say but, that's my only reason I can come up with). Funny I've never really thought about this until you asked.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
Whatever works for you Blake. I just thought maybe I was missing something.
I think being an Egghead makes us all A LOT more OCD than most. My wife thinks I've gone nuts too. We made a nice meal for her family last night and I made the mistake of saying she was "the best kitchen assistant I could ever have..." Apparently she doesn't like the title.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN! -
@minniemoh that seems pretty PC. We call that KB (Kitchen B i t c h). And it's not at all derogatory. It's a term of endearment in my home and we each wear it proudly.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

@cook861 Thanks. I used my gloves but I also just use the long reach tongs. I guess I didn't think about the high heat aspect of it.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Did cave men have gloves and tongs? Keep authentic Blake! Use a stick, spear or rib bone....
