It's expensive to raise a BBQ snob

So my for each of our kids birthdays we have a family part and have the grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins over.
My daughter turned 13 last weekend and due to conflict with the grandparents vacation, her party is tomorrow night. The birthday kid gets to pick the meal. She said pizza at first and then she thought it over and decided she wanted brisket. And then she got specific...Snake River Farms brisket. Oh, and my birthday is 4 days after her's. Yeah, I can get behind this idea...

And now I wait a bit until it is time to put it on. The XL is fired and under control of my new Stoker. So far, it's been holding steady. If you want to watch, here it is:

http://24.115.32.231:8080/

It seems to work best in Firefox. The reports don't work, I just read the release notes for Stoker-web and the reports only work when hosted on Windows, not Linux. Well, I'm hosting on Linux.

Very cool that you have the Stoker set up that way already. I've got country style ribs on with my second Stoker cook.

The brisket isn't on yet, the food temp probe is actually the outside ambient temp. I'm really not looking forward to taking the brisket out and putting it on the egg...

No reason to be apprehensive about it, the longer you wait the longer it will be before you are comfortable getting a little shut eye.
Oh you are probably in the super cold region of the area right now, I don't blame you, but if you have it set up right already, shouldn't be outside more then a couple minutes.

Yeah, I'm about to go put it on. I just didn't want it to be finished too early. At this point, it can finish early and I can FTC.

Very nice, @DMW .  I like the web experience.  Does the Stoker software help with the Lynux web server setup or did you have to do that all yourself?  In other words, was it a package installation that also installed the web server portion?  I don't know if my question makes sense.  In any event, again, very nice and I hope the Brisket turns out great for you (I'm sure it will.)

  • hmm, my stoker browser interface doesn't look anything like this. Is it a third party software? Or maybe a newer version? I've had my stoker for around 10 months. Thanks

Looking good DMW. I like the stoker on the web. Wish I was making a brisket this weekend. It's cold here right now. I'm reading 1 on the thermo here at the moment.
Looks like your around 7. I love my digiq, sure beats going out in this cold and checking a brisky.
Enjoy the good eats and Happy Birthday!

The view you are seeing is not the direct stoker itself. I am using Stoker-web:
    https://code.google.com/p/stoker-web/

This runs on a separate computer on your network and it keeps a connection to the Stoker. This doesn't use the Stoker web interface at all, which is why it doesn't look like the Stoker.

The runStokerweb.jar contains the app, web server, and Tomcat server all in one package. It is actually pretty easy to get running. The few docs on the site are geared around running on Windows, but if you know Linux, it's pretty straightforward. I happen to have a Linux box that is running Plex for my home media collection, adding Stoker-web was trivial.

@pescadorzih - Yeah, it's cold here. It was 1* when I put the brisket on last night. Here's one pic I grabbed when I put it on and then got back inside as fast as possible:

And here is the view this morning from this side of the glass door.

Most eggcellent and way to use your daughter to feed your SRF habit!   Enjoy the eats.  And don't forget the SRF Father's Day treat you need to plan for:)

The best thing about raising a BBQ snob daughter is that it will keep away the BBQ riff-raff when the dating starts.
