How many shoulders can be done at once on a LBGE?

I recently did a couple of shoulders for a friend of our family whose extended family was in town, and they went over with his clan pretty well. His aunt has asked me to do some more pulled pork for her son's graduation party. I was really flattered, and am glad to do it, but they're looking to feed 200 people, and all I have is my Large egg.

I dont think it all has to be right off the smoker, so I could theoretically do it in stages and reheat some.  I doubt anyone would even be able to tell...but before I say yay or nay I thought I better ask the pros.

I have an adjustable rig, spider, rig extender...but even with all of that, the pics on the cgs site just show a LBGE setup to accomodate four butts at once.  Would anyone attempt more at once?

And, since i know i couldnt do it all at once anyway (I would guess Id need 10 butts), how would the seasoned vets go about reheating, and storing for reheating?  Just pull it, put it in big foil pans and refrigerate?

Anyone ever tried a big cook like this? I would really appreciate some advice!

much obliged,

Joel

200 people no way. Maybe 4 if you're lucky with an AR setup.

@jdaly81 where do you live? You need to recruit some help and it needs to be more than one person with one more egg. Perhaps, @SGH would make a visit with the big unit. Only other thing I can think of is start cooking now and foodsaver and reheat. Mix with as many butts as you can put on at one time and mix fresh with reheated and throw a vinegar sauce on top and pound beers.

I've done 30 pounds (3 butts) at once, single layer on a LBGE.  Pulled and and put in foil pans and into a cooler with ice (no room in the fridge) reheated the next day using a Nesco Roaster with a bit of apple juice, but there really was a lot of juice I was able to save from the original cook.  You can repeat as needed and the possibilities are endless on how much you can serve.

Thanks for weighing in, guys. Im in northern Indiana, Chubbs.  Maybe it's a bit too steep an endeavor. My wife seems to think so, but thats all the more reason to try it!

Pork reheats really well. I always cook 50 plus pounds and food saver it and freeze. 200 is alot though. Are you just working with the large with no other accessories?

I can do 4 if they are under 7-8# a piece, but only 3 if they're closer to 10#.  So, 30# +/- a few.  Hardest part is getting a drip pan situated.

I've done 5 averaging7 lbs. 3 on the standard grid and 2 on top of a homemade raised grid.

I did a cook for just over 200 with my XL. I did it in 2 batches and reheated the batch that wasn't fresh. I did 6 boneless butts each run about 10 pounds each. We had lots of leftovers.

I'd agree with @stlcharcoal the toughest part is getting the drip pan where you don't have fat dripping on the coals. If you can reheat at the party then cooking 3 butts a day for 3-4 days is obviously doable. It just depends on how you would reheat for serving.

You could always cycle the butts between the egg and your oven.....
