well- you aren't too far off actually

4400 house fires started by lightning and 8500 by bbq's. probably statistically equal in the scheme of things. I guess we are closer to it than most since we get to see everyone's pics and hear their stories.

My neighbor started her deck on fire with her gasser 2 years ago. we life 200 yds from FD so they were here in 3 minutes and put it out before it did too much

Not every house has a regularly used grill, but all houses are regularly exposed to lightning.  If you have no grill then I am betting you will have no fire.

@Ozzie_Isaac ... good catch on not every house has a grill.  Here is a website with some grilling numbers from 2011.  They state that: "Eighty-two percent of North American households own a grill or smoker."  Thus, on average, if you have a grill, you're about 2.3 times more likely to have a fire caused by the grill rather than lightning.

There are other neat numbers in the article.  Looks like gas grills are used almost twice as much as charcoal grills.  BGE owners, at least forum members, use their grill far above the norm.

Most grills just sit in the back yard on a slab of concrete.  There's nothing to immolate.  I guess I'm livin' on the edge.  I like that.
