Beginnings of my table build

That's shaping up nice, do you plant to put a stone under the egg? A stone and an air gap is best.
-
Nope. Just gonna have the table nest. I'm pretty anxious to get the top on it.
-
From the top of my shelf to the top of the table measure 17 1/8". Wonder if I'll have to notch out a place for the hinge?
-
Nice

Cut the whole for the egg today. Didn't get much else done. I've got a lot of sanding to do!

Beautiful. Starting to think I am only one on the forum without wood working abilityColumbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Well...here she is. Top is installed and trimmed. I'm about to start sanding before finishing it off.
-
That turned out really nice. Love the top.

Nice job on the new table. I have concrete countertops on my Egg tables and I really like them. They're east to keep clean with 3-4 coats of spar polyurethane. I didn't spend much time polishing the countertops because they're outside. I just buffed them with Scott Brite pads before sealing.
Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

Finally got all 3 coats on the table. I'll move it around back and set the egg down in it this weekend.

Got the Egg dropped down in the table. 22 inch hole is perfect for a large BGE. I'm at about 17 1/8" and my hinge just rubs the table top when fully open. I'll put a few washers under the table nest to correct that. Im very happy with this table and how it turned out!! I'll still add a towel rack for hooks/hanging utensils right in the front.

What is the measurement from table top to the shelf where the egg sits?LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

Neverming. 17 1/8 I see it now. That is a perfect fit. Nice jobLBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

Looks fantastic Joe!! Really jealous over here!
-
Awesome table! What type of stain did you use and where are you getting the hardware?
-
I'll have to go back and look later. It's a 3 stage sealer/oil based stain.

Anyone have experience with General Finishes stain and sealer? They have terrific reviews.

I picked up the gallon at the lumber yard where I got the cedar lumber. I just talked to the owner about what he liked and recommended and he showed me that stuff.
-
Thanks. I need to find the best stuff for rough cedar. You have smooth cedar, right?
