Went ahead and got it planted today. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and hot peppers. I got one empty row for the wife to pick out some stuff.

What's that green stuff on the ground and branches?
Oh well, at least I haven't mowed since October.
In dog beers, I've only had one.

@hapster check out a local hardware store for bulk seed. I have always gone to the box stores for seed. My neighbor who starts all of them told me to go in the hardware store to get bulk seed. Man what a difference in price. You pay a lot of money to get fance little packages and pictures. I got Myers seed out of Baltimore. Try and see if u can find them. Good luck.

Also a .25 ounce of seed goes a long way.

Last night I put the second coat of stain on my raised cedar beds. Going with this blend of soil below from Mel Bartholemew ( thanks @tarheelmatt ), and thinking I will load this thing up with herbs/lettuce(s)/peppers and then have side pots for some climbers like Tomtatos/Cucumbers (i think they climb?) and Beans. I do not have much experience, but learning lots.

Nice @NDH. Raised box looks great. That is perfect for herbs and lettuce. Peppers might bet too large depending on how rich that soil is. I usually top my peppers though so they get bushier than tall. Lettuce is usually a cooler weather crop, too. Maybe put the peppers is pots too and then put lettuce and herbs with a little hoop and shade cloth over this bed. Good work.Columbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Thanks Chubbs - had to look up "hoop & shade cloth" . . sounds like a smart idea!Columbus, OH

Here's the bed I made this weekend. I will be installing drip irrigation and bug screening. I'm going to try my hand at organic square foot gardening.

Thanks @Chubbs This should be fun.

Great. Want to see the bug screen. On a different note, I'm trying the Parrot Flower Power and so far I like the results.

Dunno if the thread was rendered umbumpable, but here is my community garden plot, planted today....
Large BGE and Medium BGE
36" Blackstone - Greensboro! -
So far I have almost 3 and a half rows planted. One full row of sugar peas, 3/4 of a row of onions and kale, and a quarter of a row of cabbage and broccoli. Also looks nb into doing potatoes in a barrel, anyone out there ever done this?
-
Got the frame up for the insect netting. It's removable and I used the electrical PVC conduit because it is sunlight resistant. Pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Just added a new bed today. I have 4 square foot beds. The back beds are 4x8 and the front beds (made of stone) are 4 x 15.

At this point, I have planted about 10 square feet of garlic (last October), 4 square feet of lettuce, 9 of onions, 3 of shallots, 15 of several varieties of snap peas, and about 8 of Asian greens (bok choi, tatsoi, mizuna, and sensopai). Have a lot more lettuce, greens, and other early plants under the grow lights that are due to be planted tomorrow. Tomatoes and peppers are under grow lights and will be planted in about 3 weeks or so.

Here is a shot of some of my tomatoes. Coming a long nicely. Secured them to bamboo poles while out of town last week. Expected high winds and a lot of rain. Was worried I would come home to some broken plants but they held up. Watering can in there for size reference.Columbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Grid and drip irrigation in place. Time for some veggies.
