theyolksonyou. I tried the topless method for my steak tonight and it was perfect. I am fully converted and will go topless for all grilling.Franklin, Tn

I've gone topless as well. If I stir it and clean it out good, I'll use the daisy but usually I just relight the old lump or I dump more in. Low and slows or smoking, the daisy will go on.NW IOWA

Both TOPLESS Look at vent close. Both units @ 350 ( turkey on one and ham on other.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers. -
I agree with the masses. Topless most of the time except low and slow.Louisianian by birth, Louisianian by death. Austinite for now...

I use the DFMT rather than the bottom vent, I don't like to bend over and fiddle with the lower vent 'cause I usually spill my drink....From a strictly science perspective I think using the DFMT provides more consistent dome to grid temps with less effect on temps if it is windy.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Question for all-- everything I try to go topless, even with bottom vent much less than halfway open, fire gets real hot. What are you usual setting for say 350-450 if topless?Memphis, TN ----> Chattanooga, TN
