I have 42 4 foot 32watt tubes in my manbearcave. The payback on going to LED would be some time long after I'm dead, at least at current prices. Plus, they help heat the shop during the winter.

My father has solar, I'll be getting them in my next home, but eventually planning on leaving here.

For now I'll deal with the employee discount from utility company.

I have some dimmable LEDs in ceiling fans, but they don't really dim much.  It's like the dimmable range is 70% to 100% of light output instead of say 30% to 100% with regular bulbs.  I forgot which brand they are, maybe others are better.

CFL longevity has been all over the place for me.

We switched to a system with solar panels and battery storage, and it's been great for cutting our electricity bills. We even make a bit of money by selling extra power back to the grid. The savings have been big, and it's nice to help the environment too.
