Hotch... THANK YOU for the Cin Chili Bowl of Red recipe!!!

This was, bar none, THE BEST CHILI I EVER HAD!!!

I need look no further for a go to chili recipe! This stuff was awesome! I'm not much for super hot food, so when I couldn't find any serranos, I just floated two anchos. I would have tried the serranos as called for, though maybe only one, but I don't exactly live in the chili capitol of the US! Still plenty spicy for me. I used 3/8" cubed eye of round (because I try to stick with lean beef plus I already had some defrosting when I decided to do chili).

I did this on my stovetop which is where I always do chili. Maybe I'll use the egg one of these days. :) I also finally found low sodium beef stock (Kitchen Basics Unsalted Beef Stock, 130 mg sodium, 0 saturated fat) and NO sodium chicken bouillon (Herb Ox sodium free granulated bouillion). I had looked many times before, but never found either.

Anyway, it was outstanding, even with the lo so stuff, and I just wanted to say thanks. To Hotch for posting the recipe and to Cindy Reed for creating it! For those who missed it and want to try a great bowl of red... https://www.chili.org/cindy.html

Don't tell Mickey, but I may never put beans in chili again. Maybe a can or two of beans would stretch it even further, but so would doubling this recipe!!

This pic doesn't do it justice...

I made some two days ago but I had to spice it up a little. Even better the second day.

Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

Mickey, if you haven't tried the scratch recipe, do yourself a favor. Just look at the list of ingredients... no way that one little packet has all the same stuff. I remember thinking it was pretty good - especially after I added th beans :) - but this recipe is way more than pretty good!

Made another batch of this last night, this time for Mom. She says it's not proper chili without beans. So, to the recipe linked above, I added a large onion at the beginning and a can of kidney beans in dump 3. Excellent with or without beans. I just love the flavor of the seasoning combo in this recipe! Oh, and I'm still floating a couple of anchos instead of serranos. Plenty spicy for me plus I can't find serranos anyway.

@Carolina Q I glad your mother liked it. As with most recipes you can you can tweak it make it your own. I really like the flavor of the smoked paprika.

The Serranos are hotter than jalapeños by a factor of 2-3 times. If you like send me a PM with your address and I will send you some.

Thanks! I appreciate the offer, but I wouldn't ask you to do that. I like the flavor I'm getting with the anchos so I'm good. Thanks again!!
