My First Egg (XL) and Table complete...

Here is my XL Egg table after completion. Made of Cedar with granite egg base and granite insert for food and hot items. I went with granite because I got a deal at a local building supply who had a piece break, so I got a good discount. Not to hard to cut, shape and finish with an angle grinder.
The only thing not complete are the pulls for the drawer and cabinet doors. I have been using this table now for a year and I can say that I am still happy with my design. The granite (or other type material) is an absolute must below the Egg and on top the table. The one below the egg allows me to set hot items out of the way, such as my "GrillGrates". The granite on top allows for food prep in/out of the egg with easy clean up, and most importantly I can set extremely hot items on the granite up top such as my elec lump igniter, Hot foods, hot dasiy wheel egg top, hot half moon raised grill etc.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Very perceptive with your "my first egg" in the title. Great job with the table. Most eggcellent!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I really, really do like your table. The lines are very simple and compliment the egg rather than detracting from it.

I am not ready to just give the model out due to the design flaws I mentioned. Some of the measurements are off and I do not want someone to attempt building a similar table with bad measurements and run into trouble, cause lots of wasted time, money and materials. It's Christmas time so I will not get a chance to update for a while.
Are you looking at building a table?

Great table! What type of joints did you use on the table top before they were glued? Did you plane each board on the top or just sand them? I am in the design stages of my table but your table has given me a lot of inspiration. I plan on also using western red cedar.

For the top I used a table top planner to assure same thickness of boards before gluing together with biscuits. Then of course once the top was glued together I had to use a scrapper for the glue then a hand planner and finally sanding down to the finish.
I used pocket holes and glue for the entire frame.

Very nice table, getting my first egg delivered Monday. Already planning the table, I might steal a few ideas.
