I've never had steak soup of any kind. I'll be watching this because I'm curious...

Though I'm guessing you could make a really good beef vegetable soup with it. We usually use cheaper cuts for that, but not sure why it wouldn't work.

    Or beef barley soup.

Did I mention I really like this time of year because it's soup season?

@DMW any thoughts on how barley freezes? I haven't done a lot with it...usually go with faro, buit I have both in the pantry. Was thinking of using taters, but know they don't freeze well. (I freeze leftover soup in half-pint mason jars for quick grab and go lunches.)

I was just doing some googling, and this recipe looks really good:

I still don't know if barley soup freezes well....

@DMW‌ My googling seems to indicate it will. I'm more of a faro fan, but I'm trying to expand. :D So far we've got browned beef fat and bones, removed fat and then added onions, carrots, celery. Stirred in some flour, smoked paprika, S & P. Degazed with some red, then added beef and veggie stock. Bay leaf, dried majoram, a tip of fish sauce to round it out. I've got the barley in now and will let that come to al dente before adding in the steak and making last minute tweaks imageimageimage
