Last minute dinner ... ground up some sirloin, simple seasoning of fish sauce and S&P, seared on DIY 44W (canuck equivalent of A36) baking steel over inferno in Lodge Sportsman grill, nice medium rare burger for a change!

Great looking burgers. I assume the Sportsman uses less lump to get the inferno temp than the XL? Great idea to simply close the dome and snuff the Sportsman.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

2nd to last picture of the burger with the smoke rising off it is awesome!!! Great pictures!

@caliking - I visited a metal shop this spring/summer and picked up two pieces 1/4 inch thick 44W:1x 13" x 13.5"1x 11.5 x 12", notched the corners to fit the spider. Also picked up some scrap heavy duty 'chicken wire', enough for making several diy lump grates, paid about $25 total! This first prototype has been working really well, earlier this week I even used it in the tandoor, elevated by a kitchen gas range's cast iron stand.canuckland

That lodge is on my wish list, looks perfect for a quick cook.

Yup got the inferno with leftover lump quickly. Guess placing the steel directly on lump reducing ring in the egg would work too, but I needed to use the Sportsman occasionally to minimise rust, and it's easier to cook and take pictures with the Sportsman at a higher level.canuckland
