OT - Fleas

Came home from work to find my puppy itching.  Found a few fleas jumping around.

Went and got capstar which is supposed to kill the fleas in a few hours.  Washing the sheets and dog areas now. 

Any other advise?  This is my first experience.

Also bought K9 Advantix and I will give that to him in a few days after he flushes his system.... should have got that when I first him :-(

If the above doesn't work, find something to do with everyone for 4 or 5 hours and bombs away.

This stuff rocks, but do your research and ask your vet. Not good for all dogs.

Sorry to say but, if the home has been infested you'll need to do exactly what @Eggcelsior‌ said and fog out the house. I'd also throw a couple in the attic and crawl space (whichever is applicable in your case). Advantix is effect but, only on your buddy.

We use frontline with our guys and have never had a problem; of course they don't really spend a whole lot of time in the yard

They taste great but ya need a mess of them to make a meal.

Yep prescription and takes the place of heartworm also. Have never seen a flea or tick on the sorry Labrador at our house. Again, research as there have been some deaths allegedly related, but we've obviously not had any issues.

Hey man, my guy has a short coat and seems to pick up fleas with ease. We keep him on k-9 advantix and his heartworm has flea preventative. Our house has never been infested because we have hardwoods throughout. Take him to the vet and get a flea dip if it's bad. He didn't want us getting ride of this rug apparently.

+ 1,000 on the Trifexis. I used to use Frontline, and it worked for a few years, but then it stopped working. 

Trifexis work great for my dog, but as @theyolksonyou said it isn't for every dog. Thankfully my dog has no problem with it.

In addition to all the above, twice daily vacuuming of the carpets in the house, empty the bag outside and trash it each time. Gets rid of the eggs.

Capstar is very quick. I mean like 15 minutes quick. 

I hope you get rid of them. They are a real pain.

Luckily.  I have bamboo and tile throught the house except the master upstairs.

I am steam cleaning the master and washing everything else.  Couches have slips.. washing those too.

I am hopeful as the cats show no sign of fleas so I think I caught it early.

Get some drops for the cats. The vet variety works better than the pet store. DO NOT worry about bombing, etc. Fleas go on a three-day feed, three days on and three days off. If they don't have anything to eat, they die quickly. 

My cat is highly allergic. I have to give him flea drops year round, and he doesn't go outside. Bringing in just one flea on our shoes will cause him great anguish. Happened in the dead of winter one year.
