Mad max or Sittin turkey thingy.

Have done multiple mad max turkeys over the last few years and have no complaints. I actually think it's the best turkey I have ever had. Here's the delima. My sister bought me a sittin turkey that you see in the picture. Same concept as beer butt chicken, but for turkey. Thinking about doing a trial run with it, but don't want to waste my time. Any suggestions? Has any one used it?

If a trial run, go for it. For the big day, stick with max. Perhaps wait until after T-day for sale turkeys.

Eggcelsior,Thanks. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I will do a test run, just to send pictures to my Sister. Sticking with Mad Max for the big day.Bluffton, SC LBGE, SBGE, Thermapen

So far my best Turkeys have come off my Weber kettle.I have cooked many on my Eggs and offset smoker but spinning them on the Weber has been a winner for the last few years. This also frees up the Egg for other things like ABTs and wings.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

I have a suggestion for you, something I've never done with a turkey so take it FWIW. Use the turkey thingy, but invert the bird. Feet up, neck cavity down. I've done whole chickens this way with great results, @Little_Steven inspired it. The idea is to get the dark meat higher in the dome where the air is hotter.I don't have a turkey thingy or the headroom to do a "vertical" turkey in my MBGE. I bet the legs/thighs higher in the dome will finish same time as the breast without the Mad Max icing the breast ritual. If you feel adventuresome and it works, report back and I'll take the credit.....otherwise I didn't say anything.....Thanks.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
