Has anybody tried the Dr. BBQ Championship Chili recipe from the NFL Cookbook? Any thoughts?

Do you (by chance) mean 'Race day Chili?' If so the answer is YES YES YES! I haven't seen the NFL Cookbook, but I recommend Googling 'Dr Bbq's raceday Chili' and seeing the video. I've received rave reviews everytime I make it.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

@socaltim - no, this recipe is called "Dr BBQ Championship Chili" and it's in this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-NFL-Gameday-Cookbook-Lampe/dp/0811863956I am making it tomorrow and will let you know how it turns out!Indianapolis, Indiana. Go Colts & Hoosiers!

I will be waiting for an update! @Kortneys are you using a cast iron dutch oven or with enamel?

I'm sure it will be great. Here is the recipe/vid for the race day chili.I haven't tried it...but it has to be good. @SoCatTim- do you use leftover brisket in this recipe?Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@damnedhooligan it will be in my cast iron dutch oven, though I am considering switching to an enamel in the future. Depending on the soup I can taste metal from the cast iron every now and then...not good!thanks @smokeypitt !Indianapolis, Indiana. Go Colts & Hoosiers!

@smokeypitt - the one in the book is different from the race day chili.Indianapolis, Indiana. Go Colts & Hoosiers!

@Kortney, I read that acidic foods like tomatoes cause that reaction with cast iron so I'm guessing that is a risk with making chili? I haven't heard many people complain about their chili negatively reacting to the cast iron dutch oven. Right now I'm on the fence with getting a cast iron dutch oven or enamel covered one :-?

Have cooked chili in the classic Lodge CI #12 DOs with no problems. After cooking/serving, it's best to remove the chili to another container and clean the DO ASAP.BrandonQuad Cities

I'm going to cook this for Halloween thanks for the recipe

My neighbor has made Dr. BBQ's chili recently and liked it a lot. I have done baked beans and chili in my CI DO and have not noticed a metal taste, but I only will serve out of it the day of the cook then move the leftovers to something else and clean up the DO like @Focker said. I think if the CI is well seasoned you should not have a problem.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.
