OT - Tom Petty concert

I went to see Tom Petty last night @ The Forum in Los Angeles. As expected it was an awesome show. My seats were side stage, second row. From my vantage point, I was able to see behind the scenes action. It was actually pretty cool.

I had no idea Tom Petty was such a heavy chain smoker. Between each song, he would walk in back of the drummer and a woman (I think it was his wife) would hand him a cigarette, and he'd take a few drags off it.

The band rotates the guitars between songs, a guy would hand them to an older man just to the right of the drummer (behind a partition) and the man would plug each guitar into some kinda of gizmo and he would tune each one. Each tuning would take about 10 seconds. Needless to say he was busy all night.

Even thou these guys are now in their 60's ... they still got a thing for the women in the crowd. I saw Mike Campbell (lead guitarist) looking at a certain large breasted woman who was sitting in the front row. Finally he looked at a roadie, pointed at the woman. The roadie went down and took her backstage. Probably gonna take her out for coffee after the show. I dunno.

Here's a couple pictures during the show and one during set change.

Oh, just noticed. If you look at the left hand corner of picture 2, you will see a well endowed woman who's wearing a blue top. She was the woman who was pulled from the audience. Coffee, yeah ... must have been for coffee.

  • Glad you enjoyed the concert.  I saw him in Kansas City in the 90's and it was a lot of fun.  I also remember that he asked all of us to support his friends at Green Peace during the intermission and he was booed loudly.  Apparently for that crowd Green Peace and music just didn't mix.

Crackerjack band, the Heartbreakers.  Their last two albums have been released in Bluray Audio, 5.1 Surround Sound, and they're among my favorites.   B-)

@Dobie. ... On a serious note good question. The arena did have a heavy Pot aroma.

I've seen Petty twice and both were among my favorite shows of all time. While both were definitely top 5, he would get bumped by John Mellencamp and Hank Williams Jr. Both of those guys were much better than I thought they would be.

And yes, in my experience, a contact high comes free with the price of admission at a Petty show.

I would question whether or not they were cigs as well.  I've seen him before but it's been 15 years.  Puts on a great show....from what little I remember!!
I just saw Garth Brooks here in Atlanta and have to say it was one of the 5 best concerts I've ever seen (and I didn't think it was going to be anywhere near that good going in).  Pretty impressive that he could take 18 years off from touring and pack out arena's the way he has.

I'm pumped to see Garth Brooks. He's coming to town next month. He's doing 11 shows while here in Minneapolis. Saw George Strait 4 or so months ago.....amazing!

@WeberWho? - George Strait is THE MAN!!! That is real country music - not that garbage they try and pass off on us today.
You'll have a blast a Garth.  I've never heard a crowd soooooo loud before and after every song from start to finish.  Played from 11:30pm - 2:20am and everyone would have stayed had he kept playing.
