it's Fall - time for Snicker-Doodle Apples
Snicker-Doodle Apples
This recipe was tweaked from several discussions on the BGE board and was further modified to our likings. RRP
Ingredients:
- Your choice of large red apples suitable for baking such as Fuji, McIntosh, Rome Beauty or Braeburn
- Snickers Fun Size candy bars
- Ground cinnamon
- Dark brown sugar
Cut each apple in half from top to bottom. Using a paring knife and a spoon or melon baler scoop out a rectangular hole so that a full Snickers bar will be buried in the apple half. Be careful not to puncture the apple skin as it will keep the baked apple in tact. Dust the exposed apple surface well with cinnamon and brown sugar. Wrap each apple half tightly in foil leaving only a small opening at the top. Place apples in a pan. Since the apple may have a tendency to roll over you may want to make a stand of a ball of foil.
Bake in your BGE for 30 minutes at 350° dome. When removing baked apple be careful as they will have hot juices along with the melted candy bar.
Stand by for another post about the rings I made to stand them in...

To hold these upright I took a length of 3" diameter aluminum duct work and cut it into pieces and then carefully hammered the joining edges to make these rings to sit the apples in to keep them upright and from rolling around. This is not necessary for just a few apples, but sure are handy when doing a bunch!

sorry, but by that time I was too busy working with gloves and forgot to take a shot. You have to keep the foil on as they are really gooey and messy, but delicious and HOT!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Those sound delicious, if I put a costume on and trick-or-treat your house, could you spare one?

Do you eat it right out of the foil or do you let it cool off, solidify, then eat. ?Dave - Austin, TX

Since the apple is cut in half horizontally (stem on top) and then the top is cored so as to keep the bottom skin in tact then that bottom becomes a vessel, to hold much of the melted Snicker and baked apple. Just the same it is gooey, messy and by keeping it in the foil it stays hot. I have never had one cold - just hot or at least by the time I get to mine a bit cooled down!Terrebandit said:Do you eat it right out of the foil or do you let it cool off, solidify, then eat. ?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
