I rigged this up to keep smoke off my screened in porch!
Works great and draw is just fine when smoking!

How do you open the dome? Is it a pain to unhook?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Ingenious sir! Flex duct lifts right off, and moves when you open lid, I like it.

Confused. I get not wanting smoke in the screen porch area, but ... doesn't the smoke get in the screen porch area when you open the dome lid to say, take an internal temp or add sauce to ribs or any number of other things?I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Just curious. Does it affect your temp control? I ask because I rigged something similar on my large vertical and it either run 400+ or not at all. Just curious how it did on the egg. All that said I like it. Wish it would have worked on my vertical. But atlas, no avail.

@Crazy Cajun, have similar situation...how's the ventilation system working? I am in Michigan and Egg'n in the winter would be much nicer inside my screen porch...been thinking of something very much like your solution to keep the black smoke collecting on the ceiling and windows.

The hose is flex so it removes easily. The purpose is to relocate the heavy smoke when smoking, not to make it smoke free! I smoked wings yesterday at 300F and it held constant temp. When it was smoking heavy, I elevated the vent about 6" above the damper just to see how much smoke would draw up and almost all of it did. When done that way, it would not affect the temps at all.
-
I use almost the exact set up but smaller for cold smoking. I run that from the top of my mini to the bottom vent of my large and put whatever I want to smoke in the large. Works good. Cool setup.

i like the idea. not sure if it will collect grease, i would keep an eye out for that for a while

Not glamorous, but ingenious. Needs a little polish before you take it mass-market

Awesome set up! I've been thinking about doing similar set up and this just gives me a lot of insight into what I need to do. Bookmarked.

You could get one of those temperature controllers with a hose and it would match this set up. Seriously, I think it's neat, especially if you can maintain dome temps less than 300.Dave - Austin, TX

You could probably add a vent damper in the pipe to control temp like in a wood burning stove.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

Good idea. Send me Rock's Stoker and I'll let you know if it works.
