@Botch
No doubt brother. That was a honest straight up test. The results speak for themselves. I'm sold. I'm picking up a half of pallet from @Thatgrimguy as soon as he says I can come get it. It's like a night and day difference. I'm done with RO. RW & OO are the clear and superior choice. No question of it in my mind.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Jeremiah let me go in on some bags of Rockwood and Ozark for $50 bucks. Judging by your review as well as the others I can't go wrong. Currently use an unmarked bag from my dealer but it has been excellent. Big chunks, low ash, but it costs about $29 for 22 pounds and lasts for a great many cooks. Either way it will either be RW, OO, or I'll spend the extra at the dealer.

@anzyegg
You won't regret buying OO or RW. They are outstanding.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

I ordered 3 20# bags of Rockwood and 4 10# bags of OO today from Firecraft. Should be delivered Monday. I've been using BGE lump. I like the BGE but I have to make a 70mile round trip to overpay for lump ! LOL. All I can get locally is cowboy and frontier and I don't really care much for them.on a separate note has anyone ever used GFS foods brand ? I can get it at a decent price not to far from me at a GFS Store.Danville, Il

@mshump
I have not tried the GFS brand. But at this point I'm sold on the OO & RW. Thatgrimguy sold me a half a pallet of it.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

@SGH I am looking forward to trying it, I have had a few times with the BGE lump that It will appear the VOC's are burned out, go inside get the meat and come back out 5 mins later and white smoke is pouring out again. I have also had a few cooks with overbearing smokey flavor and some acrid tasting cooks a few times. I hope for more consistency.Danville, Il

I give you my word that you will not be disappointed with OO or Rockwood. They are top tier products. I have been comparing them against each other now that I have 2 eggs. I can't find fault with either one of them. I like it so much I bought a half of a pallet.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

If you're in Danville, Olympic Hardware in Hoopeston just got a pallet about 2 weeks ago. If I remember correctly, that's about a half hour north, right? Been a long time since I've been in those parts.mshump said:@SGH I am looking forward to trying it, I have had a few times with the BGE lump that It will appear the VOC's are burned out, go inside get the meat and come back out 5 mins later and white smoke is pouring out again. mlamb01 said:@SGH - I think you left one of the most important questions unanswered in your review... What about taste? Does a steak or chicken cooked with Rockwood or OO taste any different than a steak or chicken cooked with RO, assuming the prep and cooking methods are identical? Would you be able to tell them apart in a blind taste test?
You didn't ask me, but I'm going to give my 2 cents anyway. I would tell you the cook tastes differently, if only because of the experience. Part of what I enjoy about egging is sitting outside enjoying the whole experience. When I used RO, I ended up smelling like a campfire...not the way I'd like to end my evening. Had I only used that, my appreciation would be far less and my enjoyment of the food would/was affected. Having switched to different lump, no more campfire smell and I can enjoy the pure taste of the food. If that makes sense.
