Steak with Mustard Butter; Grilled Kale & Eggplant Salad

I really like French bistro style dishes, so this steak recipe caught my attention. It called for a thin ribeye, but while at Central Market I saw a Wagyu (-style, USA) steak that looked better and was slightly less outrageously priced; I got one of those and had the butcher cut in into two thinner steaks.

I was looking for an appropriate side and had recently bookmarked this eggplant & greens recipe, and I thought the sharpness of kale would balance out the rich steak. I grilled the kale; it only took a couple of minutes raised direct and turned out great. The recipe called for Japanese eggplant; I have no idea what that is and apparently neither does Central Market, so I grabbed three different baby eggplants. The fresh mint and lemon were amazing on this.

Sadly it was only after dinner that I realized I had forgotten the spiced yogurt dressing in the refrigerator! It was great without it, but I'm curious how it would have been as intended. Served with a fresh French baguette and bottle of French wine from the "cellar" (okay, wine cooler).

Not a bad meal!
