I assume some of the members here have bought bacon online before, any suggestions?
Preference would be thick cut with some decent smoke flavor...

Sure, but why not try something that is different? If I wanted store bought bacon I'd go buy it, thought of trying something that's not in this area.Large BGE - McDonald, PA

I enjoy Dearborn Brand products. Their bacon is thick sliced and smoked. It might be sold in PA, but here is a link to their site.

Seriously, just do a search on the forum and you'll find several posts. Most use the recipe from the book charcuterie by Michael Ruhlman. All you need is a pork belly, a big ziploc bag, pink salt and some sugar.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

I highly recommend the Zingermans Bacon of the Month Club. Got it one year for Christmas. One pack of bacon a month, also includes recipes for it.The first month is from Nueske's. I've orderd from them several times.Large BGE, Mini BGEMorgantown, PA

This link is for Benton's in Vonore, TN. He has almost a cult-like following and ships to restaurant owners all over the country. Its not online & its not thick, but Consumers Reports had Costco's bacon as the best tasting store brand bacon. I agree with them plus it doesn't take much effort to open the bacon package & then put it back in the freezer.

The culinary program at the local technical college does an annual fundraising event that includes a silent auction. Every year one of the instructors puts up a side of bacon that he's made. I believe that I've won that item 3 years running now.LBGEMenasha, WI

Appreciate all the links, definitely going to check them out!
@jerryb78 Sounds like a sweet deal, sounds like you found a hidden gem.
@marysvilleegger & @paqman I don't have a spare fridge just yet to start this process, I'm sure the SWMBO will not appreciate the hobby. Hard enough to get beers in the fridge.
@Eggbertsdad The hickory country bacon looks pretty good, I assume this is what you get. Have you tried the aged whole hams?
@ads75 Looks like a decent trial pack to start, but little price for three pounds bacon @ $99, you sure it's that good?

An amazing restaurant in Charleston, SC called Husk uses Benton's bacon. They put it in their cornbread for sure. I have the recipe and the Benton's bacon so I'm going to give it a go.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

@4Runner. Husk has a place in Nashville now. Lunch, brunch or dinner SWMBO and I love the place. They have all kinds of modern riffs on old southern staples.

I make my own but I sold Nueske's in my shop for a few years. I've never had better out of a package.

Benton's is about 8 miles from my house and it is by far the best smoked bacon you can get. They will cut it fresh for you if you want it!

Let me know if you want any.
