I am about 6 months into Egging and am enjoying getting proficient at just using the vents and dome temp's...Now in saying that I am sure I will get a controller esp. when I start with the big packers and over nighters..Greensboro North Carolina

Just bought the BBQ Guru (New model). I tried it a couple of times and it worked well but unless I have a long slow and low cook I'm going to do things manually.

I just got mine and was wanting to try it out. I set it to 400 grid temp and cooked burgers. It worked like a charm. I didn't have to worry about a spike when I walked away for a few minutes.Large BGE, Holland Gas Grill, Masterbuilt electric smoker, Oklahoma Joe, Flame Boss

Higher temp cooks - greater than 320 or so are easy to maintain without a controller. Because of the shorter time frame, small excursions don't have a negative effect. Higher temps are harder on the temp probe wires too. Once you learn to control your temps, setting a certain vent opening will give you very close to the desired temp every time. The controller isn't necessary for high temp, short time cooks.

I use it if I am not hanging around. It keeps the temp right where you want itIn the bush just East of Cambridge,Ontario

I use my mine for low and slow only.
Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

I don't have a controller, other than myself keeping an eye on things until the egg settles in +-10 degrees.
I've had my eye on a Flame Boss though. Looks like a good controller.

Just ordered a stoker, but I can't see where I would use it for anything other than low & slow. I hope the ability to monitor it remotely works as advertised. Should have it by the 3rd.XL BGE - Med BGE - Mini BGE - Traeger Pellet GrillsHillsboro OR

I use my cyberQ wifi when I do whole chickens. Mostly for the meat temps but I use it to maintain the pit temp too. It's peace of mind in my book....Bob

I have found it difficult to set and maintain temps below 300. I have two different LG and both cook a little different but if I close openings any further than I do, it snuffs out the fire. I have checked both for cracks and found none.Large BGE x2 Now we're cookin' in Dothan Al.

I have tried a couple of controllers. Both had decent control, but I have been able to control 225ish°F with the vents.Below that, it is a crap shoot at best with mine.
Maybe check your gasket seal? I changed mine recently, then the bands, it made a significant difference."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
