Way Too Much Lump Dust - Wow! - Bad

(Big) Lesson Learned and one of the worst things that have happened to me in the few years that I've had my Egg happened when dumping in the lump for a cook the other day. WoW! It was a big bag of RO and before I knew it the fire bowl was full of dust. I tried to cook anyway, but only after stirring many times to let enough dust fall through to allow enough air flow to sustain a burn. That was just the second mistake as the cook did not go too well and several more mistakes were to follow. It was a real comedy of errors. I just got done with clean up today. Had to completely remove all lump and dust from bowl then had to remove ring and bowl to get the mountains of dust that fell through the bowl. What a disaster, dust everywhere. I'm going to be a bit more judicious from now on when I pour the lump in.

Go with Rockwood or Ozark Oak and the excessive dust problem goes awayMSV Chill Spot

What has worked for me for years is a simple sifter box I made of wood and 1/2" hardware cloth. When I get near the end of a bag I just store it in a bin I have and then when I have time and several near empty bags I put my sifter on the ground and dump each bag in it and shake. Dust and chips fall through and then I pour the still useable pieces into my coal bucket and don't have the dust hassle any more.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Couldn't have said it better. Stir leftover lump to get rid of ash then dump and light with RW or OO. It just doesn't get any easier.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky. -
I saw that issue go away with my move to Rockwood.
That said, they ALL get dust and small crap you can't burn in them. I fix that by not pouring the bag. I grab it handful by handful and re fill my firebox. Seems to work out better.
