Bone-in chicken breast and lentils

Spatched a bone-in breast and SWMBO made lentils with sweet red and orange peppers and onions. Dusted breast with Kick'n Chicken and threw in one small chunk of cherry.

Looks like a home run to me. Nice looking piece of bird ! =D> =D> =D>
I got to ask how do you like the taste of the cherry with poultry? I use cherry but only when I'm "cheating" to get a smoke ring on beef. Even then I smother the cherry with oak for taste. Just curious do you like it? Thanks in advance.

@SGH - Thank you. I normally use a handful of cherry chips but I was out of them so I used one small chunk. It gives just a little bit of smoke taste and really nice color. I have used apple too but that seems to make my chicken turn out more gray in color (and not as appetizing).

I like your idea for the smoke ring on beef. Going to try that next time. I like oak and hickory on beef for flavor. My father-in-law is the King of Filet Mignon in the family. He adds a couple of small hickory chunks right at the end of the cook and they come out fantastic. We all tease that we can't come close to Papa's results with a good steak.

minniemoh, the lentils sound good. How did your wife prepare them? Hope she didn't use bacon fat or a ton of salt cuz I can't have either. I used to enjoy kale and lentils with bacon fat and salt. Without them, it's just not very good. Looking for healthy, tasty sides.

SGH, cherry is great with poultry. These thighs were marinated in Goya Mojo Criollo for a couple of hours and egged with a couple of cherry chunks. Great smoke flavor, beautiful color!

@Carolina Q - I'll check with her on the lentils. I think they were pre packaged but added peppers and onions.

Thank you. Doc says I have to watch sodium so prepackaged is sometimes tough for me. Still, frozen peas, corn and green beans have 0 sodium. Why not lentils? Anyway, it looked really good so please let me know.
