I wonder if your High Q lump grate caused excessive heat transfer to the wooden shelf below?

I've run the high que for close to a year...no problem til now.

Perhaps someone can explain this better technically ... I'm thinking perhaps the shelf got progressively drier/charred over the year of High Q use until now when it finally got 'ignited'?

I'll chime in here because this is so chilling and very well could have been me. I guessed that it was the brush that combusted but now i am sure it was very similar to what happened to you. The brush may have been part of the cause just collateral damage. I was very lucky that only the table burned and I had composite decking. If I was on a wood deck, that would have been all she wrote. Glad you are ok. And buy a nest. I'll never have a wood table again.
