Not bad for my very first cook with my LBGE
I got my LBGE and nest on a special at a locale outdoor furniture and grill store -- basically got the nest for free. Finally got a chance to fire it up. I used a paper towel with some vegetable oil as a starter. It was surprisingly easy to get it started, get it up to temp and keep it there.
I grilled four bone-in, skin on chicken breasts using an adaptation of Wow Chicken. I didn't have dried parsley, so I used some dried cilantro and Italian seasonings instead. Rubbed the paste all over the chicken breasts and cooked at about 400 raised, direct. I cooked it bone side down for about 15 minutes, turned it over for about 12 minutes. After that, the two smaller breasts were already at 170 which was higher than I meant to go. I left the two larger breasts on for a bit longer and actually gave them a bit too much time too. I also put 3 baking potatoes rubbed with EVOO, salt and pepper in foil on the grid along with 1 sweet potato just rubbed in EVOO and put directly on the grid. The sweet potato was for me and it was wonderful. The chicken tasted really good, but was slightly drier than I wanted. Next time I'll definitely try to get it off the grill at more like 160.

Looks good, congrats!
Brining helps chicken breasts a great deal - 3/4 cup each sugar and salt in three quarts of water for 30 mins leaves 'em nice and juicy and widens the window you have to pull 'em off the Egg.

Looks great for a first shot! Congrats!XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE

Congrats on the new Egg and great job on the cook. I pull all chicken at 165 and I do all chicken indirect as I don't like the taste of the chicken grease burning on the coals. Back when I was a gasser I would never do chicken because I just couldn't get it right but now due to BGE I do chicken all the time. =D>

Looks good.We do sweet potato quite often. Usually slice them into 1/2 inch slices and grill them with a little EVOO and s&p or, sometimes, pineapplehead.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.____________________Aurora, Ontario, Canada

Great first cook! Keep cooking on it. The more you cook, the better the seasoning. Enjoy!

Good looking cook - welcome aboard. You learned the most important lesson in egging: you learn something on every cook. I don't know how many here keep a log. I don't, but it would really be helpful. I have a most excellent memory - it's just real short. Sometimes I find myself repeating the same mistake I made the last time. Anyhow, I'd eat that chicken - great start. Enjoy!!!Santa Paula, CA

Welcome.
I liked the flavor on Spatchcock with Kosker Salt, Coarse Black Pepper, fresh cilantro, and lite fresh basil (used just enough EVOO for it all to stick).
