I believe my dome needs adjusting. There is a substantial gap from the back to about middle ways of the lid. When I shut the grill down I noticed a substantial amount of smoke coming from the gap for sometime. Any advice? Should there be a gap or should the gasket touch all the way around. I will take a picture and attach shortly.

With the dome closed, loosen the bands, wiggle the dome into place, and re-tighten.  Nothing to be afraid to do.

Should I loosen just the top band or both? I believe this would also explain my excessive usage of lump because when I shut it down it is still getting air allowing the lump to smolder.

I would start with just the top, but you may need to loosen both, and even the hinges to get the line up you want.

If it still don't want to line up try just snugging all bolts just a little then grab the hinge with a large adjustable wrench and you can move it where it needs to be then tighten your bolts. This is what I had to do to get mine to line up proper. I tried to get mine to line up until I was blue in the face then got angry and put the wrench on it and it worked like a charm. Problem solved. I hope this helps my friend.image

Forgot to say that you may have to keep holding pressure on the hinge until you get all bolts tight. I had to . Hope this helps my friend.

I loosen the bottom band bolt and push the bottom band down as much as possible. Another set of hands is helpful that way someone can push down on the dome and someone can retighten the band bolt. Then I loosen the top band bolt and have someone push down on the dome while pulling up on the top band and retighten the top band bolt. That should take care of any gap. I have even taken two bar clamps and two 2x4 and clamped the dome down to the bottom, loosened the band bolts one at a time pushing the bottom band down, tighten bottom bolt then loosen top bolt and push top band up and tighten bolt. Hope this helps. JJ

One more thing, when doing the adjustment should I place the spacers that were provided back between the bottom and top?

After you have made your adjustment make sure you get the bolts tight (picture they appear a little loose). They usually bend slightly when tightened. Also after your first heat cycle (cook) recheck your bolts. It would be a sad day for the top to fall out of the band !

I appreciate the help from you guys on this topic. I've watched this video several times and it helped me line it up. Howvever, I'm still having gap problems on the right side. I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried loosening the band but couldn't get it to level out. Here are the pics. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

Well, I adjusted the lid yesterday and did a cook tonight. The BGE performed its best to date. So based on the results and thanks to all of the help from each of you I believe I have it properly aligned for now.
