I LOVE My BGE! - or - How To keep a MOD From Killing Your Thread?

Greetings friends..

This post is doomed.

I've been victimized a few times by mods disabling "bumping" of my threads..  You know, where the thread jumps to the top of the recent posts to indicate there is activity?  The mods see a thread they don't think is worthy of this, and they disable the bump - effectively killing the thread without deleting it outright.  It's happenes to others as well - FREQUENTLY.

SO - I've decided to just put a little note in my threads...  Future thread might read something like this:

"The Big Green Egg is the greatest smoker of all TIME!

... anyone watch the Russian Hockey game today? ..."

What do you think?

8-Damien

PS - Mods please stop killing threads that are of value to the community, participated in by valuable members of the community.... It's disrespectful, especially from a non-communicative mod... IE -

I get why they do it, but it's still annoying.

I don't, not really. There have been long running threads on competitor's charcoal since the beginning. Often comparing other brands to BGE. Complaints about the high cost of BGE lump. Comments about BGE being made by RO. Group buys for Wicked Good (or other brands).Etc. Why let those run for days and block others?

I hadn't noticed bump blocking, I guess because it hasn't happened to me, but it seems rather pointless. I would think if they were going to do it, gasket threads would be prime candidates!
:D I did try to bump it myself and it didn't work for me either.

Maybe the mods aren't doing it. Maybe it's just a "feature" of Vanilla and just happens from time to time.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Might be an algorithm that analyzes the feedback flags (like, agree, troll, spam, etc).  They may calculate a "quality" number and ice it, at different levels, based on that.

    http://blog.vanillaforums.com/philosophy/diffuse-community-uproar-with-discussion-sinking/

    An interesting excerpt:

I know what you’re thinking: “Don’t the people involved in the debate notice that the discussion has been sunk? Don’t they get mad at the moderators?”

No. In our experience, we found that the people inside the sunk discussion never notice that a discussion has been sunk. Never.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

That's referring to "typical" online communities. I think this forum would be considered above average at least. We notice things.

Mods are worthless. Never have any helpful info and only attack posts that are beneficial to the eggers. Well bge lump is garbage, kinda like your R&D department

I'm not convinced our mods are real people. If they are, I'm not convinced they have souls.

If a thread starts to sink, start a new thread that links to the old one. Sort of a workaround to keep the original thread bumped .

    If ya want a thread to die a horrible death...you've gotta label it "OT" and "not family friendly"or perhaps even "tattoo talk". Oh wait that's been done. 8-}

Wow - I'm new here, but you guys and gals are talking a language I don't understand.  What's a mod?  I'm familiar with bumps, but not how to disable them.  Don't really want to either - just want to cook better tomorrow than I do today...

Welcome.  I believe it's an abbreviation for "moderator".  Someone that controls the content of the forum with administrative rights.
