Bounced back after defeat

Today I helped out on a fish habitat improvement project at Canyon Lake. I have been posting pictures of my egg-complishments on FaceBook, so I was asked to cook lunch for everyone. My challenge was to cook for about 20, so I put two pork butts on for a low-n-slow the night before. Got everything on at about 5:30 PM. Had the PartyQ hooked up plus the Maverick, with alarms all set (I thought). Hit the sack about midnight and slept like a baby knowing that all my investments would see me through.... Yeah right. Woke up at 6 AM to find the cooker at 160 and the butts at 180. No Alarm because I forgot to turn it on. Checked the PartyQ and found that the batteries were dead. Figured I could get 12 more hours out of them... Bad mistake. Here I am with 20 lbs of half-cooked butts on the egg with less than 3 hours to finish them before heading to the lake. Here was the comeback. Cranked up the oven in the house to 350. Pulled the butts off the egg and triple wrapped with foil. Threw them in the oven with a temperature probe in the meat. The butts hit 205 with only 15 minutes to spare. FTC and hit the road for an hour ride to the lake. Fed all twenty guys at noon and they all raved about how good it was. How's that for rebounding from a double fail cook and still ending up with a perfect end product?

Nice Save! Stuff happens and we learn from it. It's never fun but that's how we get better. Good job!

That wasn't defeat. That was just "behind at the half". Looks like the halftime pep talk from the coach was very effective.

    Fantastic save :)

I kept one set of batteries charging at all times so my Maverick wouldn't run out of juice overnight. Just haven't used it in a while now. I forgot to set the Maverick alarm on a couple of times so I feel your pain.  And now I have a hankering for pulled pork.
