15 Bean Ham Soup

The Easter ham remnants found a good home. I combined some recipes on the forum with some ideas on the bag of beans and hit a home run. Very hearty and fairly easy to throw together.

I love 15 Bean soup and make it regularly but haven't done it on the egg. That looks great and I have ham left over as well. Would you post the recipe you put together? Thanks._________________________________________________Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!Large BGE 2006, Mini Max 2014, 36" Blackstone, Anova Sous Vide

@JRWhitee Here's the recipe. I cooked the ham on the LBGE but had to cook the soup on the stove as my pot was too big. The original ham was 16 pounds so I had to double the recipe. For a smaller batch, just cut in half - It should fit nicely on a LBGE I borrowed some from @RRP and some from the bean package. It was to die for so here is what I ended up with.2 lbs (32 oz) Hurst's 15 bean Soup Beans (Other beans should work just fine)1 Large Ham Bone with some meat still on it6 cups of diced ham1/2 stick of butter2 C chopped Carrots2 C chopped Onion2 C chopped Celery4 Large Cloves Garlic Minced1 15oz can diced tomatoes4 Quarts (128 oz) Water2 tsp Cumin Powder2 tsp Chili Powder2 tsp Black PepperSoak beans overnight in 4 quarts water (16 - 24 hours). Discard soak water, rinse beans, and place in large pot. Add the 4 qts water and bring to a boil. Add ham bone and reduce to simmer for 2-1/2 hours, uncovered, stirring occasionally.Saute carrots, celery, onion, and garlic in the butter. Season with the pepper and cook until the onion is translucent.Remove ham bone from the pot after the simmer. Save the good pieces and remove any fatty pieces from the soup. Add the diced ham, sauted vegetables, cumin, chili powder, and the whole can of diced tomatoes with juice. Simmer another 30 minutes.By the way, throw out the season packet that comes with the beans - You will not need it. Remember to cut this in half for a 7 - 8 pound ham.Hope this works for you and doctor as you like!Milton, GA.

I will post when I do it._________________________________________________Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!Large BGE 2006, Mini Max 2014, 36" Blackstone, Anova Sous Vide
